María Jesús Fernández-Gil holds a PhD in English Studies from the University of Salamanca (2011), Spain, where she also completed her European Master’s Degree in Translation and Intercultural Mediation (2011). She is the author of two books: Traducir el horror: la intersección de la ética, la ideología y el poder en la memoria del Holocausto [Translating Horror: ethics, ideology and power in the memory of the Holocaust] (Peter Lang, 2013) and El papel (est)ético de la literatura en la conmemoración del Holocausto [The (aest)ethic role of literature in commemorating the Holocaust] (Dykinson, 2013), and has co-authored two other books related to the fields of English Linguistics, Literature and Translation Studies. She has also published several articles in Spanish and international journals. Two of her most recent papers are: Censura 2.0 y Holocausto: el control de contenidos y su impacto en la imagen transnacional del genocidio nazi [Censorship 2.0 and the Holocaust: content control and its impact on the transnational image of the Nazi genocide] (2015) and “Las edades de Hitler: De Satán a ser de carne y hueso, pasando por su representación en clave paródica” [The Ages of Hitler: From Satan to the man of flesh and blood, with representations of him using parody] (2016).
She is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Alcalá, where she teaches at the Modern Languages Department. She teaches courses in both the Translation and English Studies degrees and postgraduate programmes, combining teaching with work as a freelance translator from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. She started working as a professional translator back in 2007 and since then she has collaborated with many different companies, including ones involved in the fields of aeronautics, law and literature.
